An independent higher education policy think tank, Read To Live Initiative, has called on the Federal Ministry of Education to publish the cost evidence behind its proposed increase in WAEC and NECO registration fees before any final decision is made. The Ministry’s June 18, 2026 circular had approved a uniform fee of N50,000 for both examinations — an 82 per cent increase over WAEC’s current N27,000 and a 67 per cent increase over NECO’s N30,000. Gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, have invaded a Catholic Church in Enugu State and abducted a seminarian and two other worshipper. One of the victims was, however, freed some moment later.
