Amina Abubakar, widow of the late Rabe Abubakar, a retired major general, has been rescued by troops during ongoing military operations against bandits in Katsina State, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said on Monday. Mrs Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband on 30 May along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area of the state. Nigeria’s headline inflation rate rose to 15.93 per cent in May 2026, extending the upward trend recorded since the beginning of the year, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has condemned a Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the party and four other political parties, describing the decision as a direct assault on Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
