The Kaduna State High Court in Kaduna has sentenced two former bank employees, Obadofin Bamise and Hadiza Yakubu, to seven years’ imprisonment each for theft after they admitted diverting customers’ funds linked to accounts used for a federal government palliative scheme. According to a statement by EFCC on Thursday, the trial judge, A. A. Bello, delivered his judgement after both defendants pleaded guilty to a separate one-count filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has unveiled a healthcare investment platform to mobilise diaspora capital for hospitals and medical infrastructure development in Nigeria. The bank, in a statement on Wednesday, said it introduced the initiative at the 2026 ANPA Carolinas Symposium in Charlotte, where Nigerian-American physicians and healthcare professionals gathered for scientific and medical discussions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has honoured six laureates for their outstanding contributions to primary healthcare and global public health during the 79th World Health Assembly. WHO disclosed this on Wednesday, noting that the awards were presented by Assembly President Víctor Lajam and Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus. “Víctor Lajam and Tedros Ghebreyesus presented the 2026 prizes. “The 2026 prizes celebrate dedication to primary health care, reducing inequities, and health for all,” the global health body said. Alex Otti has advised youths in Abia State not to depend solely on certificates obtained from higher institutions for job security, but to acquire advanced digital skills and knowledge to survive in the 21st-century economy. The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 58-year-old Nigerien national, Sayyadi Abubakar, over his alleged involvement in the theft of rams in Bauchi metropolis. The suspect, said to be from Tahoua Town in Maradi State, Niger Republic, was arrested on May 19, 2026, after police operatives intercepted two vehicles along Gubi Road in Bauchi. According to the command, the vehicles intercepted were a white Hummer bus with registration number Delta WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry bearing Bauchi NNG-293-AA, both allegedly used to convey the stolen animals.
