Tyson Fury has confirmed he will fight in Dublin on August 1, taking on a warm-up bout ahead of his anticipated heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua later this year, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 36-year-old announced the date on Instagram on Tuesday through a video posted from a training camp in Thailand, with the caption reading, “Let’s go August 1, Dublin, Ireland.”
An opponent for the fight has not yet been named, though promoter Frank Warren had indicated earlier that an announcement was expected imminently.
Fury’s Dublin return fits into a bigger picture that is taking shape at the top of the heavyweight division. Joshua is scheduled to face Albanian fighter Kristian Prenga in Riyadh on July 25 as his own warm-up, with a potential meeting between the two British heavyweights pencilled in for later in the year.
The August 1 card in Dublin was already in place before Fury’s involvement was confirmed, with a fight between Ireland’s Pierce O’Leary and Mark Chamberlain already scheduled. Fury is expected to headline the bill.
His last appearance came on April 11, when he beat Russia’s Arslanbek Makhmudov on points at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Makhmudov went the full distance, but Fury was in control throughout, with two judges scoring the bout 120-108 and the third 119-109.
Warren described Fury’s comeback and the broader heavyweight landscape in characteristically bullish terms, though the focus now shifts to confirming an opponent for Dublin before attention turns fully to the Joshua fight.
