Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has set his sights on nailing down a permanent place in Nigeria’s starting lineup, insisting that only relentless consistency can earn a striker a regular berth in one of Africa’s most competitive attacking units, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Moffi made the declaration fresh from a glittering May in which he won back-to-back titles, first lifting the Portuguese Primeira Liga with FC Porto and then helping the Super Eagles retain the Unity Cup with a 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final at The Valley in London.
“It feels great winning a title again,” Moffi said after the trophy presentation.
“My first one was two weeks ago, and another one today. I feel really proud of myself and the team.”
The 27-year-old, who captained a rotated Super Eagles side that featured several Nigeria Premier Football League stars during the Unity Cup, scored a crucial goal in the final against the Reggae Boyz.
But despite his golden run of form, Moffi was direct when asked about his standing in the national team hierarchy.
With Victor Osimhen firmly established as Nigeria’s first-choice striker, Moffi acknowledged that the competition for places demands nothing short of perfection from every player hoping to challenge for a regular role.
“Of course, you always have to look at ways to improve. I am not at my best; I have to be at a better level,” he said.
“If you want to play for the Super Eagles, we all know we have top strikers, so you have to be at your best continuously.”
Moffi’s resurgence at Porto follows a difficult spell at OGC Nice, where a well-publicised dispute with the club’s supporters led to his departure on loan.
The turnaround in his fortunes has been striking, and his double triumph in the space of two weeks will only strengthen his case as the Super Eagles prepare for a busy international schedule ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
