Six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, has urged fans to get behind the Super Falcons as they bid to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Oshoala was on target in both legs as Nigeria defeated Senegal in an international friendly double-header at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, played last Friday and Monday.
The Al Hilal striker opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the first game, helping the Falcons to a 2-1 victory, before adding Nigeria’s third goal in Monday’s 3-0 win as the nine-time African champions completed a 5-1 aggregate triumph.
Ahead of this year’s championship, the former Barcelona striker believes the support of fans will be crucial to the team’s success.
“Scoring goals always feels good. The fans should keep supporting the leagues, the Super Falcons and the Super Eagles. Thank you for the support so far,” she said after Monday’s victory.
The 31-year-old will head to Morocco for her sixth WAFCON tournament and has won four of the previous five editions she has featured in.
She won three consecutive titles with Nigeria in 2014, 2016 and 2018 before helping the Falcons secure a record-extending 10th continental crown at the last edition in 2024.
