Nigeria international Shukurat Oladipo has been named the Serie A Femminile Best Defender of the Season after a standout campaign in Italy with AS Roma Women, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 21-year-old received the award at a gala ceremony on Monday night and was also included in the Serie A Women’s Team of the Season following her influential performances in Roma’s title-winning campaign, which secured the club a third championship in four seasons.
Oladipo, who joined Roma in February 2025 from Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League, established herself as a key figure in defence during a breakout season at the highest level of Italian football.
She made 18 league appearances, starting 15 matches, and played a central role as Roma recorded 12 clean sheets while remaining unbeaten in games she featured in.
Her contributions came in a season where she helped anchor one of the league’s most dominant defensive units.
Across the 18 Serie A appearances, she made 15 starts and played 1,398 minutes.
During that time, she registered 27 interceptions, 27 successful tackles, 70 clearances and 104 ball recoveries, while helping Roma keep eight of their 12 clean sheets.
Roma’s success was also reflected in the Team of the Season selections, with Oladipo joined by teammates Manuela Giugliano, Giada Greggi and Giulia Dragoni after their title-winning run.
The defender’s rise in Italy follows her involvement in Nigeria’s squad that won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July 2025.
Oladipo is expected to remain a key part of Roma’s plans as they prepare for their Coppa Italia Femminile final against Juventus on May 24, where they will look to complete a domestic double before embarking on another WAFCON quest with Nigeria in July 2026.
