Kwara United will attempt to extend their impressive unbeaten run and secure their Nigeria Premier Football League status when they face already relegated Bayelsa United in their final match of the 2025/26 season at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Harmony Boys head into the matchday 38 encounter under pressure to avoid defeat, knowing that at least a point would guarantee their place in the top flight for another season.
Kwara United have arrived in Yenagoa ahead of the decisive fixture as they prepare for what is anticipated to be a difficult contest despite Bayelsa United’s relegation.
The Ilorin-based side have enjoyed encouraging recent meetings against the Prosperity Boys and came close to completing a double over them last season after earning a draw in Yenagoa before securing victory in Ilorin.
Head coach Ashifat Suleiman has also received a boost ahead of the encounter with the return of Toyeeb Gidado, who missed the previous game after serving a one-match suspension following his red card against Niger Tornadoes in Minna.
However, Akanni Akeem will miss Sunday’s clash because of accumulated yellow cards, with Philip Ozor or Shola Abdulraheem expected to replace him in the squad.
The Kwara United technical adviser said his players fully understood the importance of the match and revealed that the team deliberately rested several key players during their President Federation Cup fixture to focus on the relegation battle against Bayelsa United.
“We have a crucial game this weekend against Bayelsa United which was the reason we rested some of our best legs in the President Federation Cup,” Suleiman told Radio One.
“We expect a tough battle against the already relegated Bayelsa United because they will want to give their fans something to cheer up with after their drop from the league.
“We are fully motivated toward achieving our goal in the game.”
Suleiman is aiming to guide the Harmony Boys to a strong finish to the campaign, with the team currently on a five-match unbeaten run heading into the final day of the season.
