Galatasaray are plotting an ambitious double move for Super Eagles pair Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika as the Turkish champions look to strengthen their squad for another tilt at European football, though both deals present significant obstacles, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
According to Turkish outlet A Spor, Galatasaray have identified the two Nigerian internationals as priority targets this summer, a move that would see them add to an already formidable Nigerian contingent at the club following Victor Osimhen’s arrival from Napoli last year.
Of the two, Onyedika appears the more realistic prospect. The 25-year-old midfielder has decided against signing a new contract at Club Brugge, and with his current deal running until June 2027, the Belgian side are understood to be open to offers in the region of €20m to avoid losing their leverage as the contract winds down.
Galatasaray have maintained a long-standing interest in the Super Eagles midfielder, whose aggressive pressing and composure in possession have attracted attention from clubs across Europe. Aston Villa, West Ham United and Everton are also among those monitoring his situation.
Onyedika’s performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and his consistency in the Belgian Pro League, where Brugge won the title, have only added to his appeal. German side Wolfsburg had a €20m bid rejected during the winter window, underlining the competition Galatasaray face.
The Lookman pursuit, however, is a far more complicated proposition. The 28-year-old only joined Atlético Madrid from Atalanta in February in a deal worth approximately €35m plus add-ons, signing a contract until 2030.
Yet reports from Spain and Turkey indicate that Atlético could be willing to listen to offers of around €60m this summer, with the Nigerian having reportedly struggled to adapt to Diego Simeone’s demanding defensive system despite scoring four La Liga goals along with strikes in the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League.
Should Lookman become available, the queue of interested clubs is long. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Juventus and Fenerbahçe — who came close to signing him before Atlético moved in January — are all said to be monitoring developments.
Galatasaray’s ability to compete financially with those clubs, particularly Premier League sides, will be tested severely if they are serious about the chase.
