Edo Queens head coach Moses Aduku has demanded his players maintain focus as the Benin City side stand one victory away from winning the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six title following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Rivers Angels on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports
The Matchday Four victory pushed Edo Queens to the summit of the standings on nine points from four matches, setting up a winner-takes-all final-day showdown against defending champions Bayelsa Queens at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday (today).
The result makes Edo Queens’ turnaround in the competition all the more remarkable.
After losing their opening match of the Super Six, they have since won three consecutive games to put the title firmly within their grasp.
Aduku was full of praise for his players’ character after the win but was equally quick to rein in any signs of premature celebration.
“I want to give kudos to my girls for playing to instruction and also for believing in ourselves that we could bounce back after that opening defeat,” the coach said.
“We are not celebrating yet. Our focus completely shifts to Bayelsa Queens — that’s all I can say for now. We know we have one final hurdle to clear against a very tough opponent who happen to be the defending champions,” Aduku warned.
Bayelsa Queens, who are still in contention, will arrive at Sunday’s fixture desperate to retain their crown, ensuring the finale promises to be a compelling contest. For Edo Queens, victory would complete a remarkable redemption arc and deliver the club’s maiden NWFL Premiership title.
