Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has publicly thrown his support behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s resurgent 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, taking to social media to post a picture of himself with the Portuguese superstar as Ronaldo silenced his critics with a brace against Uzbekistan.
The show of support from Adams came at a time when the 41-year-old had faced severe scrutiny following Portugal’s 1-1 draw with DR Congo in their opening group fixture.
The Al-Nassr forward answered his detractors emphatically against Uzbekistan, scoring twice and celebrating one of his goals with a defiant “I’m back” gesture that quickly went viral.
Adams and Ronaldo share a brief but memorable connection when Nigeria faced Portugal in a pre-World Cup friendly.
The Super Eagles went down 2-1 in the encounter, during which Adams and Ronaldo exchanged words on the pitch on more than one occasion before being seen sharing a warm embrace at the final whistle.
Adams was visibly in awe of the Portuguese captain — the all-time top scorer in UEFA Champions League history — even in a competitive setting.
The Nigerian forward’s admiration for Ronaldo is long-standing, though it is worth noting that the player he idolises most is the Brazilian Ronaldo.
“Honestly, there’s no player I fancy like Ronaldo Nazario. For me, he’s the best football player I have watched. I feel something when I watch him, and he is the greatest of all time for me. That’s all that matters for me,” Adams told Sporty TV in a previous interview.
Ronaldo and his Portugal side have already secured a place in the round of 32, joining Argentina — inspired by Lionel Messi’s hat-trick against Algeria and a follow-up double against Austria — among the early qualifiers from the group stage.
