An aspirant for Osun East Senatorial District on the platform of the Accord Party in the 2027 general elections, Samuel Oyedotun, has said the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, remains a popular political personality among the people.
Oyedotun said Adeleke’s popularity among the people has been a source of concern to the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.
The Osun East Senatorial hopeful, who made this known in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, said despite campaign of calumny against Adeleke administration by the opposition, the governor has continued to enjoy strong grassroots support across the state.
He said “Adeleke’s appeal cuts across party lines and resonates with the residents who were connected to his approach and style of governance.”
The United States of America-trained mortgage stockbroker’s statement further read, “Even within All Progressives Congress circles, many cannot explain why Adeleke’s acceptance has not waned. It is still a mystery to them because the people’s governor keeps getting more popular every day.”
While speaking on Adeleke chances in the August 15 governorship poll, the immediate past Chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board, said the opposition parties underrated the incumbent governor before the 2022 poll and got pummeled at the poll.
He added that Adeleke has excelled in several areas where his predecessors had failed, noting that his style of governance has endeared him to people across the state and will earn him victory at the gubernatorial poll.
“In 2022, they underated the governor and after he defeated the incumbent, they claimed he has nothing to offer Osun people but to their surprise, he has not only done really well but surpassed whatever the opposition can claim as achievement while in office.
“Despite the victimisation and all tricks to frustrate his administration including the illegal takeover of council funds, Adeleke keeps performing well and the Osun masses believed in his leadership and are ready to support him with their vote, come August 15,” he said.
Regarding his ambition to vie for the Accord Party Senatorial ticket for Osun East, Oyedotun said he has “bright chances of clinching the ticket, assuring that people’s welfare will be given priority, if elected.”
The PUNCH earlier reported that Oyedotun, said ongoing infrastructure projects being executed by the state government in major towns and rural communities have “helped reduce poverty and improved residents’ welfare.”
He made this known on April 30, 2026, in Osogbo while speaking with journalists on the forthcoming Osun governorship poll and the 2027 general elections.
The aspirant said the various projects being implemented by the Ademola Adeleke administration have won the governor public support, adding that they place him in a strong position for re-election.
