The Ekiti State Governor and All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday began his re-election campaign across the 16 local government areas of the state, with the assurance that the state would benefit immensely from continuity of alignment, policies and legacies which his second term represented.
Oyebanji, who alongside his campaign team was at Ikole Ekiti and Oye Ekiti, said that he had delivered on his electoral promises in the last three and half years and would sustain delivery of life transforming and development-oriented projects and policies during the second term, adding, “Our state will benefit immensely from continuity”.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed June 20 for the Ekiti State governorship election which will be contested by 13 political parties.
The governor, speaking at Ikole Ekiti where the local government campaigns began, warned against violence before, during and after the election, saying, “There are some people who always want violence, don’t mingle with them. Fight with your votes for our party”.
He thanked the people of Ikole and Oye local government areas for their support to his administration over the years, promising to consolidate on his performance to deliver more dividends of democracy to them and indeed the state.
The governor said, “You all know the history of insecurity in the state, but now, we have put it under control. Great nations in the world are built on continuity of alignment, policies and legacies. One thing that echoes throughout Ekiti today is that Oyebanji’s solution is working, if we find a governor that respects the people, he has to continue his job.
Oyebanji said, “In 2022, when we wanted to start campaign, we started in Ikole and we won the election. We are also starting it here because we believe that Ikole has always been bringing us fortune.
“We said we would start local government tour here. You can attest to the fact that we have delivered on our promises, we promised to provide infrastructure, electricity, schools, roads, water, among others things, we have delivered”.
Oyebanji, who said that victory could only come through voting, appealed to the people, “Let us go out en masse on June 20 and vote for APC. We are one in Ekiti, those people who want to contest also want good thing”.
APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, who said that Oyebanji’s achievements in the last three and half years had been unprecedented and reason Ekiti people were backing his second term bid, said that support for the governor was due to his giant strides across all sectors.
The APC chairman urged the people of Ikole and Oye Ekiti to vote en masse for the governor on June 20, assuring them of maximum delivery of democracy after re-election.
Elesin said, “Our governor has done well, that’s why we are here to ask for the people’s support and votes for his re-election”.
A youth leader in Ikole Local Government area, Valentine David, praised the governor for his developmental strides across all parastatals especially youth development.
David said, “With all due respect, I must commend and appreciate the governor’s efforts across the strata, especially in agriculture, education and sports development. We want to assure and reassure you that we are giving him our total votes”.
