The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has lost his bid to represent Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027 following his defeat in the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Nasarawa State.
Jatau was defeated by Hon. Daniel Ogazi, who scored 13,083 votes, while the Speaker polled 5,873 votes in the contest.
Two serving members of the House of Representatives also lost their return tickets following the peaceful conduct of the APC primary elections in their respective federal constituencies in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the affected federal lawmakers are Mohammed Abdulmumini Ari, representing Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, and Jeremiah Umaru, representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency.
Declaring the results in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Sunday, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee, Musa Shuaibu Guri, described the exercise as free, fair and credible across the 13 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the committee conducted the exercise in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and the party’s guidelines.
Among the winners announced were Mohammed Al-Bashir for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Daniel Ogazi for Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency, Tony Bala Shammah for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, and Mohammed Al-Makura, who emerged candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency through a consensus arrangement after his rival, Isaac Kigbu, withdrew from the race on Saturday.
Guri, however, noted that results for the fifth federal constituency in the state, Awe/Doma/Keana, were still being collated and would be announced in due course.
He further appealed to all aspirants, both winners and losers, to unite and work together for the progress of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said, “I, Musa Shuaibu Guri, Chairman of the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the Nasarawa House of Representatives primary election held on the 16th day of May, 2026.
“For the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, Dr Ahmed Wada Ikaka scored 1,888 votes, Abdullahi Jibril scored 3,728 votes, Hon. Mohammed Al-Bashir scored 31,796 votes, while Ari Abdulmumini Mohammed got 9,039 votes.
“Mohammed Al-Bashir, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency.
“For the Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency, Tony Bala Shammah scored 38,333 votes, while Hon. Jeremiah Umaru got 4,061 votes.
“Tony Bala Shammah, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency.”
Guri added, “For Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency, Daniel Ogah Ogazi scored 13,083 votes, while Danladi Jatau polled 5,873 votes and Abdulaziz Danladi got 1,067 votes.
“Daniel Ogah Ogazi, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency.
“For the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, I hereby certify that the aspirant, Mohammed Al-Makura, received 45,000 affirmation votes, while Isaac Ali Kigbu withdrew from the contest.
“Mohammed Al-Makura, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the party’s House of Representatives candidate for Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency.”
