The Delta State chapter of the City Boy Movement has pledged to deliver 2.7 million votes to the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming elections, as part of a broader nationwide target of 10 million votes in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, the group stated that it made the pledge during the inauguration of its State Executive and the unveiling of its secretariat at the Dome Events Centre in Asaba, Delta State.
In its formal commitment, the movement stated,”The Delta State chapter of the City Boy Movement has pledged to deliver 2.7 million votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections, as part of a broader nationwide target of 10 million votes in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The newly inaugurated leadership includes Karo Goru as State Director, Alex Omaghomi as Deputy Director, Innocent Esewezie as State Coordinator, Shedrach Agediga as Deputy State Coordinator, Michael Anoka as State Leader, and Comrade Ugagaoghene Ogheneyole as State Secretary.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, described the movement as a growing political force with strong grassroots structure across the state.
He expressed confidence in its capacity, noting that its organisation and spread demonstrated seriousness of purpose. He urged members to intensify efforts in promoting government policies and programmes at the grassroots level.
According to him, many federal government reforms still require proper public understanding, adding that mobilisation groups such as the City Boy Movement have a key role in educating citizens on key policies.
He specifically mentioned policies such as tax reforms, fuel subsidy removal, and youth-focused initiatives, stressing that members serve as ambassadors of the administration and APC candidates across the state.
In their remarks, State Director Hon. Karo Goru and State Coordinator Hon. Innocent Esewezie reaffirmed the group’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation and pledged to contribute significantly to the national target of 10 million votes.
Delivering a keynote address, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, described the inauguration as historic, urging young people to take active roles in governance.
He said Nigeria is undergoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which he described as difficult but necessary, while pointing to improvements in economic indicators as signs of gradual progress.
National Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Shoga, who inaugurated the state executive, described the group as a structured platform for youth empowerment and political participation.
He emphasised discipline, organisation, and coordination, noting that previous youth movements failed due to lack of structure.
Shoga charged the new leadership to build strong grassroots structures across all local government areas and ensure effective mobilisation ahead of the elections.
The event attracted a large turnout of youths and political stakeholders from across Delta State, marking a significant expansion of the movement’s political activities in the region.
