A businessman, Abdulhameed Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Ogun East Senatorial District.
According to a statement made available to The PUNCH on Thursday by the OmoOwo Campaign Organisation media office, Omotayo was declared the party’s consensus candidate during the primary election held at Adeola Odutola Hall, Ijebu-Ode, on Wednesday.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Omotayo said his aspiration would be driven by inclusive representation, accessible leadership, and renewed hope for the people of Ogun East.
The statement noted that the PDP candidate thanked party leaders, delegates, supporters, and members of the PDP family across the senatorial district for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence our party and our people have placed in me. I do not take this responsibility lightly. Today is not about one man; it is about the future of Ogun East.
“It is about building a senatorial district where every community feels heard, respected, included, and properly represented,” Omotayo was quoted as saying.
Omotayo stated that his campaign would be anchored on the principles of equity, justice, peace, and progress, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of fairness, inclusion, and unity.
“With decades of experience in business, enterprise development, and private-sector leadership across Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, I am bringing practical experience, institution-building capacity, and people-focused leadership into public service.
“I may not be able to resolve every issue, but I promise to respond to all. The people of Ogun East deserve a senator who listens, engages, and remains accessible,” he added.
The PDP candidate also pledged to establish technology-driven constituency offices across Ogun East to improve accessibility and strengthen engagement with constituents.
“This campaign will not be defined by division, bitterness, or exclusion. It will be defined by unity, inclusion, development, and genuine service to the people.
“The campaign is also committed to youth inclusion, community engagement, and broader participation in the democratic process, especially among first-time voters and young people across Ogun East,” the statement concluded.
His emergence comes amid ongoing efforts by the PDP to strengthen its structure and reposition the party ahead of future elections following internal leadership challenges and realignments across different states.
