The All Progressives Congress has announced the guidelines for its 2026 presidential primaries, along with the composition of key committees and the appointment of state coordinators and collation officers.
According to the party, all registered APC members will be eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant in the election scheduled to hold across 8,809 wards nationwide.
This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
The party said the decision, alongside the guidelines and the composition of the Presidential Primary Election and Appeal Committees, as well as the appointment of state coordinators and collation officers, was approved by the National Working Committee in line with the Constitution of the party, the Electoral Act, and its commitment to a transparent and credible primary election process.
According to the guidelines, the mode of the primary shall be a direct primary.
“All registered members of the party shall be eligible to vote for the presidential aspirant of their choice in each of the 8,809 wards in the country. The direct primary will be held in each of the 8,809 ward,” the statement read.
It added, “Results for each ward comprised in each of the 774 local governments will be collated by the Local Government Collation Officer to be appointed by the State Coordinator and Collation Officer appointed by the National Working Committee.”
The statement further explained that each state and the Federal Capital Territory will be supervised by appointed state coordinators and collation officers, who will oversee the conduct of the exercise and collate results from all local government areas within their respective jurisdictions.
APC said collated results from the 774 local government areas are expected to be presented to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
The APC said the provisions of the “Procedure for the Conduct of Direct and Consensus Mode of Primaries,” earlier issued and forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission under a letter dated May 15, 2026, with reference number APC/NHDO/INEC/PRYS-DOCS/01-05/26, shall also apply mutatis mutandis.
The announcement comes amid ongoing APC primaries for other positions across states.
PUNCH Online reports that the party had previously endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate at national and some zonal levels.
