The African Democratic Congress has officially endorsed former Senator Halliru Jika as its sole governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.
The affirmation exercise was announced on Friday by the Chairman of the ADC Electoral Committee for the primaries, retired General Ishaya Bauka, at the Grand Conference Hall in Bauchi.
Bauka stated that the process was conducted in accordance with the party’s guidelines and democratic procedures.
He explained that the committee was mandated to oversee the affirmation of Jika and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the party’s three senatorial candidates also emerged through consensus and were affirmed unopposed.
Accepting the nomination, Jika expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to lead the party to victory in the state.
“I thank the party leadership, delegates and supporters for the trust placed in me. I remain committed to ensuring victory for the ADC in Bauchi State,” he said.
The former senator expressed optimism that the ADC would emerge victorious in the 2027 polls, noting that the party had built a strong and united political structure capable of taking over leadership in the state.
Jika, who represented Bauchi Central Senatorial District between 2019 and 2023, contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party before defecting to the ADC.
Speaking earlier, the Bauchi State Chairman of the ADC, Shu’aibu Dankama, described Jika as an experienced politician with broad acceptability across the state, saying his endorsement received unanimous backing from party stakeholders.
“He is a widely accepted and experienced politician whose endorsement enjoys the support of stakeholders across the party,” Dankama stated.
The party also affirmed its senatorial candidates for the 2027 elections, including Garba Dahiru for Bauchi South, Abdul Ningi for Bauchi Central and Nazif Gamawa for Bauchi North Senatorial District.
