Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has extended greetings to Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.
Also, a federal lawmaker from Oyo State, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, has congratulated Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging prayers for the safety of lives and property in the country
Soludo, in his goodwill message contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Wednesday, said the festival symbolises obedience, sacrifice and commitment to the common good of humanity.
The governor urged Muslims to use the spiritual significance of the celebration to pray for peace, unity and progress in Nigeria.
“Soludo urged all Muslim faithful to leverage the spiritual essence of this period to offer prayers for enduring peace, unity, and accelerated progress in our nation,” the statement read.
He also stressed the importance of charity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
“He emphasised the importance of sharing feasts, extending acts of charity, and fostering mutual tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all citizens, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds,” the statement added.
Soludo further reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
“Thus, Soludo warmly wishes all Muslims happy Barka da Sallah celebrations, praying that the blessings of this season fill everyone’s homes with bliss, peace, and prosperity,” the statement noted.
Meanwhile, Senator Buhari, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, described the festival as a period of spiritual renewal, sacrifice and unity.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, the lawmaker said Eid-el-Kabir reflects the Islamic values of obedience, faith and compassion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
He said the celebration commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
According to Buhari, the symbolic slaughtering of rams during the festival serves as a reminder of sincerity, selflessness and service to humanity.
“This period reinforces the spirit of charity and brotherhood, as the sharing of meat with families, neighbours and the less privileged strengthens social bonds and alleviates hardship,” he said.
“I want to urge Muslims to use the festival to extend kindness beyond their immediate circles and to embody the virtues of forgiveness and generosity that the season demands.”
The senator also urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country, its leaders and security agencies.
“The spiritual benefits of the festival should translate into concrete actions for national development. Let us all remain steadfast in prayers for the country’s leaders, security agencies and citizens so that peace and tranquility can reign again and again in Nigeria,” Buhari added.
He prayed for Allah to accept the sacrifices and supplications of Muslims during the 1447 Eid-ul-Adha celebration and grant Nigeria lasting peace and prosperity.
