The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 80 other senior officers to their next ranks.
Torty Kalu, the head of Protocol and Public Affairs of PSC said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Mr Kalu said that the senior officers were promoted following their success in the recently concluded written examination and oral interview conducted by the PSC.
He also said that the promotion approval was part of the high points of the commission’s decisions at its plenary meeting.
He listed the 13 CPs promoted to the rank of AIG to include Itam Obono, Bassey Ewah, Osagie Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Adebor, Isa Nda, Akaninyene Ezima and Livingstein Orutugu.
Others he said were Afegbua Rashid, Edozie Azuka, Haruna Yahaya, Emenari Innocent and Betty Otimenyin.
The PSC spokesman said 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to their next rank of CP.
According to him, the 17 newly promoted DCPs to CP are Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Murtala, Danbaba Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Oyintare, Ibrahim Zungura, Iya Mohammed, Darma Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen Sabo and Tijjani Murtala.
He said others are Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Usman, Akingbade Adeyinka, Mohammed Ahmed, Samuel Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab Pembi.
He added that 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were also promoted to the rank of DCP while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of ACP.
Mr Kalu said that the commission also approved the confirmation of appointment of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
He quoted the Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Argungu, as congratulating the promotees and admonished them to be truthful, transparent and accountable in their new responsibilities.

Mr Argungu also enjoined the officers to be professional in their conduct and be cautious of civil matters, especially land-related matters.
“Be mindful of the fact that there is life after retirement.
“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” Mr Argungu said.
