The Delta State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cultists and recovered firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons in separate operations across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Asaba.
Edafe said the operations were part of the command’s intensified crackdown on cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other violent crimes.
According to the statement, operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team on May 14, 2026, at about 11:09am, stormed a suspected cultist hideout at Eagle Square along Okpanam Road in Asaba following a distress call.
The raid led to the arrest of seven male suspects and two female suspects.
The police spokesperson said one Beretta pistol, one battle axe and one cutlass were recovered during the operation.
“The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Command Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation,” Edafe stated.
In another operation carried out the same day at about 9:00am, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team intercepted a Lexus Jeep with registration number KWL 139 CY during a stop-and-search operation along the Ughelli/Patani Road.
Edafe said the vehicle, driven by one Felix Ike, was searched thoroughly, leading to the recovery of one English-made pump action gun and 40 rounds of live cartridges.
“The suspect is in custody while investigation is ongoing,” he added.
The command also confirmed the arrest of a suspected cult kingpin identified as Christopher Ogidigbo, aged 28, from Ogharaefe Town in Ethiope-West Local Government Area.
According to Edafe, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit arrested the suspect on May 15, 2026, at about 12:30pm, following credible intelligence.
He said Ogidigbo was identified as a suspected leader of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
“One locally made revolver pistol was recovered from the suspect during the operation. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain his possible involvement in other criminal activities,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and proactive response to crime.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities across the state.
