Former Super Eagles midfielder Osaze Odemwingie has warned Victor Osimhen against joining Manchester United as the summer transfer window approaches, saying the pressure on strikers at Old Trafford is too damaging to risk, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Odemwingie, who played for Premier League clubs Stoke City, Cardiff City and West Bromwich Albion, said United’s size and expectation made it a dangerous destination for any forward.
“I didn’t specifically mention Manchester United because the problem there is huge. The pressure on strikers is immense. You have to stay away from that. We have seen this with Romelu Lukaku and many other strikers — because the club is so big and demands results, they will always find a scapegoat,” he told Brila FM.
The former winger said Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid would be better fits for the Galatasaray striker, whose future continues to dominate transfer speculation ahead of the summer window.
“Arsenal and Barcelona would be good for Osimhen — they are mature clubs. Arsenal are my father’s team, so I mentioned them first. Real Madrid are also a great club for him,” he said.
Odemwingie added that Osimhen’s physical attributes made him well-suited to the demands of European football’s biggest stages.
“Wherever he goes, he can move the ball beautifully and demand possession. He is also good in aerial duels. Real Madrid’s pitch is wide and very suitable for his runs. He has a height advantage, and he runs well,” he said.
He urged Osimhen to make his move at the peak of his career and pursue his own ambitions rather than those of others.
Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray, where he has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 21 league games this season, adding seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League matches.
The Turkish club recently missed a chance to clinch the Süper Lig title after a 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor, though Osimhen expressed confidence they would seal the championship at home against Antalyaspor.
