The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has rescued two persons trapped in a commercial bus following a multi-vehicle crash along the Motorway inward Toll-Gate corridor in the Ogudu-Alapere area of Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, the accident involved a 12-tyre DAF articulated truck and a commercial Volkswagen T4 bus with registration number AA 60 YF.
The agency said preliminary investigations indicated that the commercial bus somersaulted after a collision, trapping its driver and a passenger inside the wreckage and causing a major obstruction on the roadway.
LASTMA said its personnel, who were on routine traffic surveillance patrol in the area, responded immediately and activated emergency rescue and traffic management measures.
The agency stated that its operatives, working alongside other emergency responders, successfully extricated the trapped victims and handed them over to officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent medical treatment.
“The successful rescue operation that saved the lives of the two victims further exemplifies the Agency’s enduring commitment to the preservation of human lives, enhancement of public safety and effective traffic management across Lagos State,” the statement read.
The agency stated that the accident scene was secured to protect emergency personnel and other road users, while officers of the Nigeria Police Force provided security and crowd control throughout the operation.
The statement added that to ease traffic congestion caused by the incident, LASTMA officials evacuated the damaged vehicles and implemented diversion and traffic-control measures to restore the free flow of traffic.
Commending the efforts of the rescue team, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised the officers for their prompt response and professionalism at the scene.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki also urged motorists, especially operators of articulated trucks and commercial vehicles, to embrace defensive driving and comply strictly with traffic regulations.
He reiterated that road safety remains a collective responsibility and urged all road users to exercise vigilance, patience and discipline while navigating the State’s highways and arterial roads.
