The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Presidency to provide a full account of the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, saying the matter has gone beyond one individual and has become a test of the Federal Government’s transparency and accountability.
The movement made the demand in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed.
It said that while the Presidency had publicly denied the existence of the council and distanced itself from individuals claiming to represent it, reports indicating that over N1bn was appropriated for the entity in the 2026 budget had raised serious questions requiring urgent clarification.
According to the statement, the controversy should not be dismissed as the alleged misconduct of one individual.
“This is no longer about one man. It has become a question of public accountability,” the movement said.
It asked, “If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed?
“If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?”
The movement described the issues as matters of public accountability rather than partisan politics.
It said the administration of President Bola Tinubu came into office with promises of institutional reform, responsible governance and Renewed Hope, adding that those commitments should now be reflected in the government’s handling of the controversy.
“The Tinubu administration came into office promising Renewed Hope, institutional reform and responsible governance. Those promises must now be measured against its willingness to provide full disclosure on this and other matters.
“Silence, contradictions or attempts to shift responsibility will only deepen public distrust.”
The group also warned that the controversy could affect Nigeria’s reputation among foreign investors.
“Foreign investors assess not only economic policies but also the integrity of public institutions. Any uncertainty about the authenticity of government bodies or official appointments risks undermining confidence in Nigeria’s governance and investment climate,” it said.
The movement called on the Presidency to publish details of the budgetary provision, including its origin, the administrative processes that led to it, and measures being taken to prevent a recurrence.
It also urged the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other oversight institutions to conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
“We will continue to demand transparency, not because of politics, but because public office is a public trust. Every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people, and every public institution must be accountable to them,” the statement added.
The group stressed that Nigerians deserved a full explanation of the controversy without delay
