A group of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi East Senatorial District has petitioned the party’s National Working Committee over the reported suspension of Senator Jibrin Isah, popularly known as Echocho, urging the leadership to disregard what they described as politically motivated actions against the lawmaker.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the group’s representative, Ibrahim Mohammed, the stakeholders called on the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the National Secretary to critically examine all documents and decisions connected to the senator’s suspension before taking any position on the matter.
The stakeholders specifically urged the party leadership to ignore what they termed a “purported letter of rejection” allegedly being circulated by some party members in the district.
“We are calling on the National Chairman and the National Secretary to ignore the purported letter of rejection currently being circulated.
“Many of those who attended the meeting where these signatures were extracted are not even authentic ward executives, let alone chairmen. This is a clear case of impersonation and political desperation taken to its highest level,” the statement read.
The controversy surrounding Isah’s suspension is the latest development in the growing internal power struggle within the APC in Kogi East ahead of future political contests in the state.
The district, which is predominantly Igala-speaking, remains one of the most politically strategic zones in Kogi State and has historically played a decisive role in the state’s electoral dynamics.
The stakeholders warned that attempts to deepen divisions within the party could undermine cohesion in the district and weaken the APC’s political standing ahead of future elections.
According to Mohammed, internal disagreements within the party should be resolved through established mechanisms rather than actions capable of escalating tensions among members.
He stressed the need for unity within the APC, noting that party cohesion should remain a priority at a time when the ruling party is seeking to consolidate support across the state.
The group also threw its weight behind Isah, describing him as a lawmaker whose representation at the National Assembly and constituency interventions have had visible impact across communities in Kogi East.
They argued that the senator’s legislative record and development projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“Re-electing Senator Jibrin Isah is to the strategic advantage of the entire Igala nation and Kogi East. His achievements are visible to see.
“He has earned the trust of the people, and his return to the Red Chamber will ensure the region continues to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” the statement added.
Isah, who represents Kogi East in the Senate, has remained one of the influential political figures in the district, with his supporters frequently citing infrastructure projects, empowerment programmes, and educational interventions as part of his contributions to the area.
The stakeholders appealed to party members across Kogi East to remain calm and loyal to the APC while awaiting the outcome of the NWC’s review of the petition.
