Muhammad Adamu Aliero has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Kebbi Central Senatorial District following the party’s primary election held on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.
The former governor and serving senator was affirmed at the Haliru Abdu Stadium after other aspirants in the race stepped down following consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
Speaking after his emergence, Aliero described the consensus arrangement as a sign of unity and political maturity within the APC in Kebbi State.
He expressed gratitude to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, party executives, delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
“I appreciate the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris and the support of party members across the state. The peaceful outcome of this primary election has shown that APC in Kebbi is united and focused on victory,” he said.
Aliero pledged to continue championing programmes and policies aimed at improving the welfare of the people through quality representation and constituency development.
According to him, priority would continue to be given to education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure development.
Governor Idris, who attended the primary election, commended aspirants who withdrew from the contest in the interest of party unity, particularly Alhaji Kabiru Sani Giant, who stepped down for Aliero.
The governor also praised the reconciliation committee led by former Kebbi State Governor, Sa’idu Usman Nasamu Dakingari, for successfully resolving differences among aspirants across the state’s senatorial districts.
He urged APC members to remain united and mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, formally announced Aliero as the consensus candidate after confirming the withdrawal of other aspirants from the race.
Party supporters at the venue erupted in celebration following the affirmation of the former governor as the APC flag bearer for Kebbi Central Senatorial District.
