The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has warned the state pilgrims to shun any form of vices at the Holy Land and be good ambassadors of Kano State and the country.
He made the charge while addressing the first batch of 560 intending pilgrims who are to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj, 2026.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent on Saturday.
The governor urged the pilgrims to fear God and display exemplary behaviour as good ambassadors of Kano State.
“We believe our pilgrims are wonderful people and will not engage in any shameful act capable of denting the image of the state”, the Governor said.
He said the Kano state government had provided a medical team and hospital that would take care of any person who falls sick at the Holy Land.
Governor Yusuf said the government has done all that is supposed to be done for the pilgrims’ comfort here at home and at the Holy Land.
“My Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo was with you and briefed you on my behalf. We have done a lot for you, especially in healthcare.”
The Governor revealed that his administration has appointed the Emir of Gaya, Dr Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as the state Amirul Hajj for this year and the Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz, as his deputy.
Earlier, the Director General of the Kano state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abubakar Matawalle, commended the state government for all the support to the board so as to have a hitch-free Hajj.
He informed the Governor that they had supplied all the 560 pilgrims for the first flight with soap, toothpaste and a brush, because it is the first item they will look after arriving at the Holy land.
The Governor was accompanied during the farewell visit by his Deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, Speaker House of State Assembly, the Amirul Hajj and other top government functionaries.
