Gunmen invaded Rumuodogo 2 Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed two people on Monday morning.
Though the reason for the attack by the assailants could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, the invaders broke into houses in a commando-style in search of their targets.
A woman simply identified as Monica who claimed her husband was among those attacked, alleged that the assailants came from a neighbouring community in another local government area bordering Rumuodogo 2 in Emohua LGA.
She said the attackers invaded their home at about 1AM on Monday, broke down their door, and forced her and her husband outside.
Monica alleged that the assailants manhandled her husband and shot him afterwards.
“They came by 1 a.m., broke our door and brought my husband and me outside. I was even naked when we were brought outside. They started beating my husband and shot him.
“They wanted to kill me too, but one of them said they should leave me because I am a woman,” she narrated while fighting back tears..
“They said our community was responsible for the killing of the persons whose dead bodies were discovered in the river last Monday,” she added
It was gathered that the incidents shattered the community’s serenity, causing panic as some residents scampered for safety, taking refuge in the bushes.
When contacted, spokesperson of the State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident.
She stated, “I can confirm the incident. Two persons were killed in the attack. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the attack and to arrest the perpetrators.”
