The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, has deployed over 210 personnel across the state for its 2026 Eid-el-Kabir special patrol operations aimed at ensuring safer roads during the festive period.
In a press statement released on Monday, the Sector Public Education Officer of the command, Margaret Onabe, said the personnel comprised regular and special marshals strategically deployed to ensure smooth traffic flow and prompt emergency response.
Onabe explained that the special patrol operation, which commenced on May 25 and would end on May 31, 2026, forms part of the corps’ annual strategic intervention programme.
According to her, the exercise is aimed at promoting road safety and managing the anticipated increase in vehicular movement associated with the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
She said the operation was designed to enhance public enlightenment, reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries, ensure traffic decongestion, facilitate immediate clearance of road obstructions and effectively respond to emergencies on highways across the state.
The statement read, “The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Sector Command, has deployed over 210 personnel for the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir special patrol operations across the state.
“To guarantee efficient service delivery during the exercise, the Command has fully mobilised operational equipment and logistics, including patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, motorcycles, radar guns, breathalysers, and other traffic management resources. Special attention has also been given to traffic control at the Bridge Head, Onitsha, and other strategic routes across the state.”
According to the statement, the special patrol will focus on major traffic offences responsible for road crashes.
“These include excessive speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading, lane indiscipline, use of mobile phones while driving, operation of mechanically deficient vehicles, use of expired or worn-out tyres, passenger manifest violations, and other traffic-related offences,” it added.
Onabe further disclosed that mobile courts would be deployed to ensure speedy prosecution of traffic offenders.
“In addition, all emergency response and rescue teams have been placed on maximum alert to ensure prompt intervention whenever necessary,” she stated.
She also noted that the Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno, said the command would collaborate closely with the Nigeria Police Force, the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency and the OCHA Brigade to strengthen traffic management and security during the celebrations.
“She urged motorists, passengers, and other road users to cooperate with traffic management agencies by obeying all traffic rules and regulations, avoiding risky driving behaviours, and prioritizing safety throughout the celebrations.
“The FRSC Anambra Sector Command wishes all Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid El-Kabir celebration and reassures the public of its commitment to ensuring safer roads for all,” the statement added.
The FRSC usually launches special patrol operations during festive periods such as Eid-el-Kabir, Christmas and New Year celebrations to manage increased vehicular movement, reduce road crashes and improve emergency response on highways.
Anambra state, particularly major commercial hubs like Onitsha, often experiences heavy traffic during holidays due to heightened economic and social activities.
