Former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, on Saturday reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He declared that members of the All Progressives Congress across the country were in support of the President’s second-term ambition.
Amosun made the declaration during the APC presidential primary held at Ward 6, Itoko, Abeokuta, where party faithful turned out in large numbers to participate in the process.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote, the former governor described the exercise as a special moment for party members to publicly reaffirm their loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC.
“Today is for the President and we all must come out to show and demonstrate that yes, we are for the President, we are for APC, and that’s why I am here,” Amosun said.
He explained that party stakeholders had already aligned on supporting the President’s re-election, noting that the exercise was simply a reaffirmation of an existing consensus among party members nationwide.
“You know we have done the one for the governor, so all of us are in sync, we have all taken that position. So, it is just to reaffirm what we have done and that is what happened. Today, all of us in Nigeria, not just this place, every ward in Nigeria is doing this and we have to come here to participate and do our bit too,” he added.
Amosun also commended party supporters for what he described as their peaceful conduct and enthusiastic participation, saying the turnout reflected growing acceptance of the President among Nigerians.
“I am happy with our people. You can see they are very excited and eager to be part of what is going on. I am satisfied with the process and you could see how the people came out in their numbers. See the crowd on ground; they have come to show support for our President,” he stated.
The former governor further noted that the orderly conduct of party faithful during the exercise showed unity within the APC, stressing that members were speaking with one voice regarding the President’s return in 2027.
“We are orderly and that is what it should be. All of us are speaking with one voice, no dissension. Everybody has agreed that yes, we want our President to return,” Amosun added.
Also speaking, the member representing Abeokuta South, Afolabi Afuape, described the turnout as a strong indication of support for President Tinubu and expressed appreciation to party members in Ward 6 for participating peacefully in the exercise.
Afuape said, “Let me thank the people of Ward 6 for coming out to vote for the hope of the country and that’s President Bola Tinubu.
“As we can all see, this shows acceptance, we are on that page. I must also thank the former Governor Ibikunle Amosun for participating in this process for the first time and that is also a good omen that Mr President is accepted by all and sundry.”
He added that the massive turnout of supporters further demonstrated solidarity with the President and confidence in his leadership ahead of the next general election.
