Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, and former Adamawa North Senator, Ishaku Abbo, have obtained Expression of Interest and Nomination forms of the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections, days after defecting from their former political parties.
Both politicians picked forms on Wednesday at the Labour Party secretariat in Abuja alongside other aspirants seeking various elective positions.
Maku is contesting for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat, while Abbo is seeking the Labour Party governorship ticket in Adamawa State.
Their move comes less than a week after they left their former parties — Maku from the Social Democratic Party and Abbo from the African Democratic Congress — citing internal crises and unresolved disputes.
Another aspirant, Emmanuel Ben, also purchased nomination forms to run for the governorship seat in Akwa Ibom State.
Others who procured forms included Adamu Blanzou for the Akwanga North/Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Jesse Ayenajeh for the Toto Federal Constituency seat, and Chidiebere Anyanwu for the Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency seat.
Addressing journalists after obtaining his forms, Maku praised the transparency of the process and expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s electoral prospects.
He said, “The Labour Party has won the confidence and support of Nigerians. I am convinced that Labour Party will emerge victorious in the next general elections, from the presidency to governorship elections, where the party has firmly established itself as a household name in many states.
“I am speaking particularly about Nasarawa and across my Senatorial District, where the people remain determined to ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming senatorial and other elections in the state.”
Similarly, Abbo commended the growing influence of the party and lauded the leadership of the Labour Party National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, for repositioning the party.
He also expressed optimism about the party’s chances in Adamawa State and across the North-East ahead of the next elections.
