The Plateau State Police Command has condemned the destruction of farmlands in “Lokojoro” and the killing of cattle in “Nding” and “Kasuwan Dankali” communities of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
In a statement on Wednesday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, described the incidents as “unfortunate” and capable of disrupting peace in the area.
“The Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah psc(+), FCAI, strongly condemns the recent destruction of farms in the Lokojoro area and the killing of cows in Nding and Kasuwan Dankali of Barkin Ladi LGA,” the statement said.
He warned that the command would not tolerate actions capable of triggering a breakdown of law and order, adding that security agencies have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of existing restrictions in the area.
“In line with proactive measures aimed at preventing further breakdown of law and order, while safeguarding lives and properties, the Commissioner of Police re-emphasises the restrictions placed on the activities of both commercial and private motorcycles within Barkin Ladi Local Government Area by the State Government,” it added.
Ewah said the restrictions would be strictly enforced in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain peace.
“To this end, the command, in cooperation with other security agencies, will ensure strict enforcement of this restriction in the interest of peace in Barkin Ladi and the state at large,” the statement said.
He also reiterated the ban on commercial tricycles, popularly known as “Keke NAPEP”, on Sallah Day and the day after, noting that the directive remains in force.
The Commissioner further reminded residents that the total ban on commercial motorcycles within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis and other areas covered by the Jos master plan is still in place.
“These measures are not an attempt to infringe on the rights of any individual or group of persons, but a necessary step aimed at ensuring peace in the state,” he said.
Ewah said investigations into the incidents were ongoing, with efforts underway to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
“Investigation into the incidents is ongoing with a view to arrest the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice,” he said.
He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to support security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing operations.
“Members of the public are urged to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that can aid ongoing investigations,” the statement added.
