A 29-year-old man, Sadiq Abubakar Yusuf, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly raping his 14-year-old grandniece in Guru Village, Bauchi State.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the incident was reported at the ‘B’ Division, GRA, Bauchi, on May 15, 2026.
The command added that the alleged assault occurred in the early hours of May 14.
“The complainant, a 45-year-old father, reported that his nephew, Sadiq Abubakar Yusuf, allegedly lured his 14-year-old daughter outside their residence and assaulted her,” the statement read.
Habib said police operatives swiftly responded to the report, arrested the suspect and took the survivor to the police clinic for medical attention.
He added that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
“The Bauchi State Police Command reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on crimes against minors and women.
“The Command assures the public that the matter will be handled with professionalism and sensitivity and in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to continue reporting cases of abuse and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.
PUNCH Metro reports that the incident came less than four days after the command announced the arrest of a 70-year-old man, Hamza Yahaya, for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area.
