The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that there is no verified intelligence indicating any imminent attack on schools in the state following the circulation of a threatening notice allegedly warning of plans by bandits to abduct schoolchildren.
The reassurance comes amid growing concern among parents and school authorities after reports emerged of a notice purportedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intended to attack and kidnap pupils.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the Command had assessed the situation and immediately activated enhanced security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations in the state.
“The Lagos State Police Command has seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children.
“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities, and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.
The police, however, stressed that all security concerns are being treated with the utmost seriousness and urged residents to remain calm and avoid panic.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai has directed an immediate security assessment and ordered what the Command described as “watertight security measures” to protect schools, critical infrastructure and communities.
Police personnel, working alongside other security agencies, have been deployed to strengthen security presence and prevent any potential threat.
The Command reiterated that Lagos remains secure and warned criminal elements against any attempt to disrupt public peace.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents.
“Any individual or group found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic, or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The police also urged residents to support security agencies by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious activities.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the Police and members of the public,” the statement added.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious persons, objects or movements through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines.
The Command assured Lagosians that all necessary measures were being taken to guarantee the continued safety and security of residents across the state.
“The public is once again assured that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety, security, and well-being of every resident of Lagos State,” the statement said.
