The opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has nominated Aminu Abdulsalam, former deputy governor of Kano State, as its flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election. Mr Abdulsalam’s nomination followed his resignation as deputy over disagreement with Governor Abba Yusuf over the latter’s defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in January. The federal government has identified 21 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as areas at high or moderate risk of Ebola importation following renewed outbreaks in parts of Africa. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) disclosed this on Thursday after placing states across the country on heightened Ebola preparedness alert amid fears of cross-border transmission. The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday said it had arrested five suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of two schoolchildren in Ore, the headquarters of the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state. The command stated that the suspects were arrested by operatives of its Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad following an intelligence-led operation carried out after the victims were kidnapped and ransom allegedly paid.
