The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, scheduled to begin today, 12 January. It said the suspension of the strike is due to fresh commitments from the federal government and key health sector stakeholders. Electricity supply to Nigerians from the National Grid dropped to 3,810 megawatts as of 11 January 2026. This is according to data from the country’s national grid operator. The 3,810 megawatts of electricity is the total amount of supply received by the country’s eleven electricity distribution companies and passed on to Nigerians. The available electricity supply capacity represents a significant drop when compared to the 4,330 megawatts of electricity allocated to discos as of January 5th, 2025. The price war in the petroleum sector has continued to deepen as some retail outlets have dropped the prices of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) below the N739 per litre recommended by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the killing of a legal practitioner, Chigbo Princess, and alleged “one-chance” armed robbery operations in Abuja.
