The Minority Leader and member representing Omuma state constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Sylvanus Nwankwo and his colleague, Peter Abbey representing the Degema Constituency have retraced their steps in the ongoing plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy. At a press conference in Port Harcourt on Monday, the duo urged the State Assembly to reconsider its step. According to them, the decision followed an appeal from “our elders and leaders”, who begged for leniency. They said, “Rivers State issued a notice of impeachment on Governor Fubara and his Deputy. We appeal to our fellow colleagues…
The Algerian Football Federation, FAF, has officially submitted a complaint to both FIFA and CAF, following their 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in the quarter-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. FAF had challenged some of the referee’s calls in the game last Saturday. In the letter, they claimed that several officiating decisions in the match “raised serious questions” and caused widespread dissatisfaction among players, officials, and fans. The federation described the calls as undermining the credibility of African refereeing and tarnishing the image of African football on the international stage. The complaint included a formal request for an investigation…
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has instructed tertiary institutions implicated in flawed admission practices to reverse such admissions with immediate effect. The Board said it uncovered cases in which candidates with stronger rankings were allegedly overlooked in favour of those with lower scores, a development it warned runs contrary to the rules guiding admissions into Nigerian higher institutions. The directive was issued in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday in Abuja by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin. In the bulletin, the Board stated, “The attention of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has been drawn to the conduct…
The Rivers State Government has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of extortion, including money-for-marks and the sale of examination papers, at the State College of Medical Sciences in Port Harcourt. Already, the government has suspended the head of one of the departments linked to the alleged offences, although the specific department was not disclosed. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Monday. She also announced that a committee chaired by the Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital had been constituted to thoroughly investigate the…
The Trump administration’s move to help Venezuela sell its oil has exposed the high stakes behind the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Framed publicly around narcotics allegations, the action is really about control over energy, influence in the global dollar system, and the broader contest with China. Venezuela’s enormous oil reserves, the largest proven in the world at over 300 billion barrels, give it influence far beyond its domestic economy, and how this oil is produced, priced, and traded will shape both Washington’s immediate interests and the long-term balance of global power. For several years,…
Super Eagles players, led by captain Wilfred Ndidi and vice-captain Victor Osimhen, have sent goodwill messages to Victor Boniface after the on-loan Bayer Leverkusen striker underwent successful knee surgery on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports. The striker completed the procedure on Saturday as his teammates were slugging it out with Algeria in a quarter-final match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Nigeria won 2-0 thanks to goals from Osimhen and Akor Adams. In a video shared on Sunday by sports content creator Calister Enejele on Instagram, Ndidi and his teammates sent goodwill messages to the striker, who…
Last week, we started discussing the need to avoid overgeneralisation, which is the application of a language rule too broadly. According to Cambridge Dictionary, overgeneralisation is the use of a rule of language in situations where it does not need to be used, or the incorrect use of a word to refer to a similar, but different, thing. It is the concept involved when you say ‘discuss about’ just because it is correct to say ‘talk about’. ‘Discuss about’ is, however, wrong (tautological) since the meaning of ‘discuss’ already includes ‘about’. We continue the examination of the problems associated with…
Lebara Nigeria has launched the Agent Registration Portal, a new digital onboarding platform designed to accelerate the expansion of its retail and point-of-sale network nationwide, the telecommunications company said on Monday. Through the portal, the firm aims to create awareness, build trust and credibility within the retail channel, create opportunities for Nigerians to register and become Lebara partners, and position the brand as a modern, digitally driven, and opportunity-focused telecom operator. With the introduction of the ARP, alongside its earlier customer-focused digital tools, Lebara Nigeria is designed to empower SMEs, independent distributors, SIM sellers, and retailers nationwide by removing traditional…
Ethereum needs to get to a point where its value proposition remains even if developers stop active work on the protocol, according to its co-founder Vitalik Buterin.“We must get to a place where Ethereum’s value proposition does not strictly depend on any features that are not in the protocol already,” said Buterin in a post to X on Monday. He said Ethereum protocols should aspire to be like hammers: once purchased, they remain usable, unlike services that lose functionality when a vendor walks away. The Sister Wives stars initially planned to build a quartet of homes in Flagstaff, Arizona, on land informally called Coyote Pass — but three relationship breakups threw a wrench in that plan starting in 2021. Kody Brown and his then-wives moved their polygamist family from Utah to Arizona in 2018. Kody wed Meri Brown in 1990, several years before he “spiritually married” Janelle Brown in 1993 and Christine Brown in 1994, respectively. Kody and Meri divorced in 2014 so that he could legally marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, and adopt her three children from a previous relationship. As Kody…
