The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating female genital mutilation and other forms of gender-based violence in the state. The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, described FGM as a harmful practice with no health benefits, questioning why mothers still subject their daughters to the practice despite its consequences. The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspects over the alleged fraudulent sale and illegal transfer of three heavy-duty vehicles valued at over N71 million. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday. According to him, the suspects included Adeola Kolawole, 56; Alhaji Gani Bello, 73; Oladoja Akeem, 56; Wasiu Adigun, 55; Azeez Yusuf, 49; and Ojo Mudasiru, 40. The Nigeria Democratic Congress on Sunday distanced itself from various results of its recently concluded nationwide primaries circulating on social media, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council is authorised to announce the outcome of the exercise. The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) has continued to rise across the country despite a significant increase in its domestic production and a decline in imports, The PUNCH reports. Data obtained from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority showed that local production from refineries and gas processing plants accounted for the bulk of Nigeria’s LPG supply between April 2025 and April 2026, reducing the country’s dependence on imports.
