The Department of State Services has released a carpenter, Mustapha Marwana, who was arrested over the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State. The Director-General of the service, Tosin Ajayi, ordered his release after investigators cleared him of any link to the attack. Nigeria’s 650,000-square-kilometre rangelands are facing increasing degradation, driven by desertification, agricultural and livestock expansion and overgrazing, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has said. The Nigerian Army says its troops have arrested the suspected commander of a kidnap syndicate in a forest in Enugu State, Nigeria’s South-east. The spokesman of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Olabisi Ayeni, said in a statement on Monday that the troops also recovered weapons and some money, including $1,000 from the suspect.
