Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has reduced Osun State’s domestic debt by N69.18 billion since taking office, moving the state from among Nigeria’s 10 most indebted states to 18th on the domestic debt ranking, an analysis of data from the Debt Management Office (DMO) has shown. The Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Glory Effiong, has suspended the planned election of the Mkpanak Youth Development Association (MYDA) and directed security agencies to arrest anyone who attempts to conduct or participate in the exercise. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has deployed its National Election Observers Team to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, as the association prepares to monitor the electoral process and promote adherence to the rule of law during the exercise. Nigeria’s crude oil production declined by four per cent in July 2026, although the country continued to exceed its OPEC production quota for the third consecutive month, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has said. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the commission stated that the country’s latest production statistics showed that Nigeria produced an average of 1.505 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil in July, above its OPEC quota of 1.5mbpd.
