Nigeria’s two main opposition parties, ADC and NDC, are facing multiple internal crises, calling into question their ability to challenge or even defeat the ruling party, APC, in next year’s general elections. Although Nigeria currently has 21 registered parties, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) are the two expected to pose formidable challenges to the ruling APC. This is partly because of their presidential candidates: Atiku Abubakar of the ADC and Peter Obi of the NDC. Mr Abubakar came second in the last presidential election, while Mr Obi came third. Together, they had more votes…

What sets him apart isn’t only the roads repaired or schools reopened. It’s the spirit behind it. Gov. Abba leads like someone who remembers where he came from. He moves through the state with humility, speaks with respect, and makes decisions with the…
A Nigerian legal scholar based in the United Kingdom, Godwin Daramola, has called for stricter environmental regulations and legally enforceable sustainability obligations for oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria, arguing that voluntary corporate social responsibility initiatives have failed to resolve longstanding challenges in host communities. Daramola, a doctoral researcher and teaching fellow in law at the University of Hull, said environmental protection, community development and corporate accountability should be embedded in law rather than left to the discretion of companies. According to a statement issued on Sunday, the legal scholar argued that the traditional Corporate Social Responsibility model widely…
