No fewer than 33 ships laden with petroleum products, commodities and other goods are expected to arrive at Apapa, Tin-Can Island and Lekki Deep Sea Ports in Lagos from 30 to 31 January. Fear has escalated in Ataroga, a border settlement between Ebonyi and Benue States, after unknown armed men allegedly slaughtered several cows. The attack, said to have taken place early Sunday morning, has created panic and forced many residents to flee, worsening the already fragile security situation in the area. The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a lawyer following a shooting during a masquerade display in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, which left one person dead and eight others injured. Spokesperson of the State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the incident occurred on Monday when some youths carrying out a masquerade display clashed with the lawyer, identified as Barrister Akpudi Ikechukwu, and officials of the Nigeria Forest Guards. “The altercation escalated and resulted in a shooting and casualties,” Iringe-Koko said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. Nigeria’s non-oil exports rose to an all-time high of $6.1bn in 2025, marking the strongest performance recorded in the sector since the establishment of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council nearly five decades ago.
