The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced the defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The announcement was made by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, also from Plateau State, during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. Yilwatda noted that with Governor Mutfwang’s defection, APC now controls all the states in the North Central region. It is recalled that the meeting is currently in session, with President Bola Tinubu present, along with the six governors who recently defected from PDP to APC.

Egypt is drawn in Group B with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Angola.
The 1995 set of Kings College, Lagos, has commenced the renovation and modernisation of the school’s Physics Laboratory. A member of the Class of 1995, Dr Mani Barminas, who spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony, said the project was to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their graduation and to honour members of the set who had passed on. “We hope this gives their families some peace. Explaining why the set chose the Physics Laboratory, Barminas said physics remained a core science subject and the foundation for…
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Thursday lamented what he described as “organised and orchestrated insecurity” in Nigeria, saying unnamed enemies were deliberately tormenting the country through terrorism, banditry and insurgency. Akpabio spoke at the 14th National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja. He urged party leaders to accommodate defectors and new members, warning against discrimination as the APC expands. Akpabio told President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders that the worsening security situation had left many states grieving, while the party leadership must remain united to confront the challenges. “We are very…
A community on the Osun–Kwara boundary, Ora, was thrown into panic on Monday following a fatal attack by suspected gunmen. PUNCH Metro learnt on Tuesday that the attack claimed the life of a village head, identified simply as Dennis, while a retired Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was abducted. Residents who spoke with our correspondent said the abduction threw the community into panic, with people fleeing in different directions as the assailants escaped into the bush with the victim. The victim’s wife, Titilayo, told PUNCH Metro that the incident occurred in front of Owolabi’s house on Akisa Road, Ora, Osun State,…
The video of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, chastening the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during her coronation ceremony in Ile Ife reminded me of what I think was my first encounter with her about 14-15 years ago at their party secretariat (then, it was still Alliance for Democracy) in Lagos. I was a reporter with The PUNCH, and we were to cover an event. She arrived at the place, and a bunch of journalists (including yours truly) got up to interview her. The person closest to her started asking her a question. Out of nowhere, she interrupted the female…
Babafemi Ojudu, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has refuted claims in a new biography that late President Muhammadu Buhari opposed Osinbajo’s bid for the presidency in 2023. Ojudu described the book’s accounts as “mischievous” and based on “hearsay,” insisting that Buhari expressed unequivocal support for Osinbajo on multiple occasions. The controversy stems from excerpts of Muhammadu Buhari: From Soldier to Statesman, authored by Dr. Charles Omole and unveiled on Monday. In the book, Omole reportedly claims Buhari withheld support from Osinbajo primarily because President Bola Tinubu was also in the race, viewing Tinubu…

The Joint Health Sector Unions have announced plans to picket the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on Wednesday, as part of efforts to press home their demands. The National Secretary of JOHESU, Martin Egbanubi, disclosed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. The action comes amid an ongoing indefinite nationwide strike by JOHESU and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations, which began on November 15, 2025, following what the unions described as prolonged neglect of critical issues affecting health workers. The unions faulted the Federal Government’s persistent failure to implement the adjusted Consolidated Health Salary…
The Italian football league on Thursday gave the green light for AC Milan’s controversial ‘home’ Serie A game against Como to go ahead in Australia in February. The decision comes two months after Spain’s La Liga scrapped plans to hold a Barcelona match in Miami in the United States due to “uncertainty” about the game within Spain. “The match between Milan and Como will indeed be played on February 8 in Perth,” announced Serie A boss Ezio Simonelli. Milan’s San Siro stadium is out of commission on that date because it is hosting the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics…
