The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Amupitan, has assured voters in Ekiti State that their votes will count in the June 20 governorship election, while taking a hard line on vote-buying. A Nigerian, Samuel Ugberase, indicted for wire fraud, has been extradited from Nigeria to the United States to face prosecution. The US Department of Justice said Mr Ugberase was extradited for his role in a romance scam and money laundering scheme. In a statement on Tuesday, the US Department of Justice stated that he was indicted in 2021 by a grand jury in the Eastern District of North Carolina. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, said the impact of the United States/Israel and Iran conflict on Nigeria’s economy has been largely limited, attributing this to earlier economic reforms that strengthened the country’s buffers. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a free health insurance enrolment and medical outreach programme for inmates across correctional centres in Abuja, benefitingmore than 1,500 inmates. The exercise, which began on Tuesday at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja, is the first formal enrolment of inmates into the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
