Nottingham Forest Women head coach Carly Davies has hailed Joy Omewa as an ideal addition to her squad after the Nigerian forward completed a permanent move from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Forest confirmed the signing of the 23-year-old on Tuesday, with the deal running until May 2026 as the club continues to build in its maiden season in the second tier of English women’s football.
Omewa arrives with a strong reputation following an impressive spell in Denmark, where she emerged as one of the most prolific forwards in the Kvindeligaen.
Forest are currently sixth in WSL2 with 19 points, four behind the promotion places, following their promotion as champions of the 2024/25 FA Women’s National League North. Omewa’s arrival is expected to boost their attacking options as they push for a strong finish to the campaign and continue to establish themselves in the division.
Davies said the club had secured a player capable of making an immediate impact, praising Omewa’s attacking qualities and experience.
“Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions,” she said.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome her to Nottingham Forest. Joy’s incredible goal-scoring prowess speaks for itself,” she said.
“She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad.”
Omewa’s move to England follows a highly successful period with Fortuna Hjørring, where she scored more than 50 goals across competitions and won multiple honours, including two Danish Women’s Cups and the Kvindeligaen title in the 2024/25 season.
Her performances during that campaign also earned her the Kvindeligaen Player of the Season award.
On completing her switch to Forest, Omewa spoke of her excitement at joining an ambitious side.
“I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team,” she said.
“I can’t wait to get started for this club and I think I can add a lot to an already talented group at Forest.”
The forward began her career in Nigeria with Confluence Queens before moving to Denmark in 2021, initially joining Boldklubben af 1893 and later establishing herself at Fortuna Hjørring.
At international level, Omewa has represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 level and earned her first senior cap last year, featuring in the Super Falcons’ two-legged victory over Benin that sealed qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
