Daniel Daga has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual assault after prosecutors in Norway brought a case against the Nigerian midfielder, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 18-year-old’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, told TV 2 that her client acknowledged a sexual encounter had taken place but insisted it was consensual.
“My client acknowledges that there has been a sexual incident, but maintains that it was mutually consensual. He believes that he has not done anything illegal and does not plead guilty,” she said.
Bolstad added that the defence was surprised a charge had been brought following the investigation and stressed that there was no suspicion of violence or threats.
She said Daga was looking forward to having the case heard in court so he could clear his name, adding that he was deeply affected by the situation and the complaint.
“We are surprised that charges have been brought following the investigation that has been carried out. It is also important to emphasise that there is no suspicion of violence or threats.”

TV 2 further reported that the lawyer did not wish to comment beyond what was stated in the press release.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, Molde FK confirmed that Daga had been charged with a sexual act without consent. The club said the midfielder has been withdrawn from training and matches for the foreseeable future.
Molde stated that Daga has participated in all police interviews and has fully cooperated with investigators throughout the process. The club added that the player has travelled to Nigeria but will return to Norway ahead of the court proceedings.
According to the case details cited by TV 2, the matter is scheduled to be heard in March at Nordmøre and Romsdal district court.
Molde chairman Odd Ivar Moen said the club was treating the case with seriousness.
“We have previously experienced how demanding this type of case is for those involved, for the club and for everyone around us. This is a matter of a serious nature, and we view the charge that has been brought with great seriousness,” he said.
The club also confirmed it had been in contact with the complainant’s legal representative to acknowledge the strain the case has caused.
“It is a great burden for the complainant. Beyond that, no comment,” the complainant’s counsel, Anette Western Torgersen, told TV 2.
Daga joined Molde ahead of the 2025 season and played 17 matches for the club during the campaign. Molde said it intends to act respectfully and facilitate a fair legal process for all parties involved.
