Philip Agbese, lawmaker representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has explained why the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State resolved to retain Austin Agada and other members of the party’s executive committee for a second term.
Agbese said the decision, which covers party executives from the state level down to local government and ward structures, was based on loyalty, commitment, and demonstrable performance.
He made this known on Saturday in Abuja.
According to Agbese, the adoption of the current party leadership reflects the core values of the APC, particularly the principle of rewarding hard work and results.
“In the APC, we believe strongly in recognising those who have laboured for the party and delivered results,” he said.
“That is why we have adopted Comrade Austin Agada and the entire executive structure from the state down to the ward level.”
Agbese noted that the decision aligns with the leadership philosophy of Senator George Akume, whom he described as the party’s leader in Benue State.
“Our leader, Senator George Akume, has always stood for merit and loyalty. Those who work for the party and stand firm in difficult times deserve recognition,” he added.
“Comrade Austin Agada led the party through the 2023 elections with dedication and resilience. He mobilised across Benue against all odds and ensured the party remained strong and competitive,” Agbese stated.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker stressed that continuity in leadership was necessary to consolidate past achievements and strengthen the party’s prospects in future elections.
“As we prepare for future contests, including ensuring improved results for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Benue State, continuity is key,” he said. “Experience brings stability, and stability brings victory.”
Agbese described the decision to retain the party executives as a strategic move aimed at deepening grassroots trust and positioning the APC for greater success.
Reacting to questions on the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia, Agbese said the APC was now focused on national leadership.
“Our attention is on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the broader national interest. We believe the people of Benue understand this bigger picture.”
