The Senate on Wednesday recorded fresh defections as two lawmakers from Taraba State announced their exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers, Senator Haruna Manu and Senator Shuaibu Lau, announced their defection through separate letters read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Manu, who represents Taraba Central Senatorial District, formally informed the Senate of his resignation from the PDP, stating that his decision followed wide consultations and careful consideration of the political landscape.
“I write with due respect to formally notify the Senate of my decision to withdraw my membership from the PDP and to align myself with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The decision follows deep reflection, extensive consultation with my constituents, political associates, and key stakeholders, as well as a careful assessment of the prevailing political realities and the developmental aspirations of the people I represent.
“I have become convinced that my continuous service to my constituents and my contributions to the legislative and developmental agenda of our nation will be better advanced on the platform of the APC,” he said.
Similarly, Senator Shuaibu Lau, who represents Taraba North Senatorial District, attributed his defection to dissatisfaction with developments within the PDP.
In his letter to the Senate, Lau expressed concerns over the party’s internal challenges and overall direction.
“I have become increasingly concerned about my current party’s direction and internal issues.
“I believe the All Progressives Congress aligns more closely with my values and vision.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification of my defection to the APC,” Lau stated.
