Calls have intensified for the Osun State leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intervene in a deepening dispute within Ibokun Ward 1, Obokun Local Government Area, following claims of a purported suspension of Olatunbosun Oyintiloye.
DAILY POST recalls that the controversy started after Oyintiloye, a former member representing Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, was purportedly suspended by APC members in the ward.
The suspension decision was contained in a letter addressed to the Osun State Chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, and dated Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The letter, jointly signed by 18 ward executives and five leaders, accused Oyintiloye of allegedly taking over an Executive Assistant (EA) slot and funds amounting to N5.6 million without authorisation.
The controversy, however, drew wider attention after the APC Chairman in Obokun Local Government, Oluyide Adesina, formally notified the state chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, that he had no knowledge of any valid disciplinary action against Oyintiloye.
In the letter, Adesina said the action allegedly taken at ward level did not follow established party procedures, stressing that he was neither consulted nor informed before the announcement.
“I was never carried along in the process leading to the said suspension. The development was capable of triggering internal disaffection if left unresolved,” Adesina added.
He maintained that the APC Constitution clearly outlines disciplinary procedures, noting that any deviation from Article 21 renders such actions ineffective within the party structure.
The matter also escalated further as leaders and members of Ward 1, Ibokun, publicly dissociated themselves from one Gbenga Fagbamila, who they accused of presenting himself as ward chairman without broad recognition.
The ward stakeholders said the statement attributed to the ward leadership was misleading and did not reflect the collective position of party members in the area.
“The publication circulating in the press should be disregarded. It was sponsored by individuals opposed to Oyintiloye’s political standing within Obokun,” they alleged.
They highlighted Oyintiloye’s record in public service, listing his previous roles, including Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Member and Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Strategy between 2015 and 2019, and Special Adviser on Civic Engagement.
According to the ward leaders, Oyintiloye currently serves as a federal government appointee and has remained active in party mobilisation and organisation.
Separately, the Obokun APC Party Leaders’ Forum issued a rejoinder rejecting the purported suspension, describing it as a breach of party rules and an action taken without due process.
“We are not aware of any misconduct or anti-party activity attributable to Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye,” the forum said, insisting that no grounds existed for disciplinary measures.
The forum also warned that the dispute could fuel factionalisation within the ward and the local government, particularly at a time when the party leadership is pursuing reconciliation ahead of the next governorship election.
It called on the APC State Working Committee to review the situation, enforce constitutional provisions, and take steps to stabilise the ward’s leadership structure.
The party leaders urged the state leadership to act swiftly, noting that “the supremacy of the APC constitution and internal unity must be upheld at all times.”
