The African Alliance Party, AAP, has reacted to the registration of two new political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
DAILY POST reported that the electoral umpire on Thursday, February 5, 2026, announced that two political parties have been added to the existing 19, bringing the total number of registered political parties in the country to 21.
The National Chairman of the AAP, Hon. Rev. Olusegun Iyaobaje Peters, called on all AAP members across Nigeria to stay strong, remain calm and focused on party activities in their respective states.
The national chairman and the leadership of the AAP said they are on top of the situation and confident that the political association will soon be registered as a political party.
“We really appreciate members who worked hard for the progress of AAP,” a statement signed by Alh. Abubakar Sadiq, AAP National Publicity Secretary, said.
DAILY POST also reported that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said on Thursday that the electoral umpire has approved two additional parties, namely the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
However, the commission expressed concern over the continued registration and retention of political parties plagued by recurring leadership conflicts, warning that persistent internal crises pose a danger to constitutional order.
INEC explained that the DLA successfully scaled a stringent verification process, while the NDC gained registration following compliance with a directive from the Federal High Court.
